Emol

Published on January 25, 2010

Just saw Emol‘s work in last months Juxtapoz. Dude has a blog, and kinda reminds me of T Freak, but with straighter lines and less fish-inspired-content. What is it about Brazilian artists that draws them to the street? Is it that in Brazil, the street is visible to so many more people? More people must equal more visual democracy, or at least, less ability to police expression, and privatize cities. The bigger the city, the less tame the street art seems to be. Less punches pulled, more to be said. Whether pixacao, or Emol’s colorful work, the vibe is within reach…cuz it comes from the people.

Enjoy…

  1. People must appropriate public spaces with their art, their expressions, so the cities could stop being "non-places", or clean and empty spaces without any significance… As you say, its an visual democracy, and a battle to humanize the metropolis! Some of my favorite street artists, here in são paulo: <a href="http://www.lost.art.br/osgemeos_01_02.htmhttp://www.lost.art.br/osgemeos_01_02.htm<br />http://www.flickr.com/photos/sp_ilustrada/sets/72157603440401205/=
