Words by Evan La Ruffa
Talk about minute detail! It’s as if Sim City gained a soul and coud envision actual intricacies instead of superficial structures. Mattias Adolfsson’s work includes world’s turning in on themselves in utter connectivity, while kitchens and other calm scenes get a kick in the ass by line and intricacy. It’s truly a shout out to anyone who has ever completely lost themselves in a doodle, a design, a word, an idea. You have to jump in with reckless abandon and allow yourself to play the “Where’s Waldo” game, as one tiny granular addition leads to everything else… and back again. He’s from Sigtuna, Sweden, and his illustrations are next-level.
Between vision and painstaking line work lives the mind of someone much more patient than we, as interdependence takes on a new meaning. Sky views of cities below, vessels that appear to contain all the makings of a planet, and intricate machines governed by bow-tied scientists, are all ingredients in Mattias’ visual candy. Num num.
He’s got a book for sale on his site too!
