Wanxin Zhang’s work feels historical snapshots of old-world remnants. We’re pretty sure WZ could put together his own Terracotta Army, and the work feels like a conduit to that type of artistic perseverance. Wanxin was born in China and later moved to San Francisco, and has since participated in many international exhibitions with collectors worldwide. It’s not often that the output itself feels like it belongs perfectly in a fine art gallery setting, to the same degree that it would if you exhumed the piece from a geological hold. The intensity of emotion, and the detail in the faces make you feel like these characters were frozen in time, mid-action, between poses. The rustic and rugged approach yields little-to-no divide between art and viewer, as if said creations could come to life at any moment.
