May 10th, 2016 Posted by Art, Chicago, Collage, Featured, Mixed Media, Paintings No Comment yet

Sita Rupe creates iconic images that recall a bygone era of lively conversations in sun-baked kitchens that stand in the mind with an immediate, almost brutal force. The 62’s Artistic Anarchy Turns Pop Culture Consumerism On Its Head

December 8th, 2015 Posted by Design, Digital, Events, Featured, Illustration, Installations, Mixed Media, Murals, New York, Paintings, Surrealism No Comment yet

The 62 is one of those rare group of artists who truly stretch the public’s view of just what art is or can be. Anarchy, in the strictest sense, is a belief that order need not be a necessity for civilization. This attitude reflects strongly in The 62’s visual and interactive art. The artists involved each bring their own style and experience with them ranging from involvement in community service to new media design, all in the name of artistic anarchy.

Lorna Simpson’s Artwork Delves Into History with Abstract Ink Portraits

December 1st, 2015 Posted by Art, Collage, Featured, Mixed Media, New York, Paintings, Photography No Comment yet

Simpson’s sparse, sepia portraits depict women with anonymity – we see only the line of a shoulder blade or the sweep of a collarbone. This universalizes their bodies but also confronts us with an almost unnerving intimacy. These photos are then interwoven, thematically and literally, with the artifacts of a dark history – braids of hair, lonely shoes, empty dinner plates, and abandoned slave quarters.

Aaron Rivera is an artist in the Los Angeles area who we had the pleasure to meet at Le Luz de Jesus Gallery in LA. Rivera works in a variety of mediums – launching himself in his teens as a muralist, Aaron Rivera has traveled many roads in the expansive world of art, from small scale painting to puppet design for the eccentric Spike Jonze. His work possesses a certain bright sentimentality and elicits fond memories and feelings of days passed and those still to come. Rivera takes you on a mental and emotional vacation through his most recent expressions in the celebration of leisure.
