Darshan: Photographic Series on Indian Deities by Manjari Sharma

Photographer Manjari Sharma is about to undertake an amazing project. This talented NYC-based photographer who grew up in Mumbai is breaking new ground. Manjari’s project involves an “attempt to show that photos too can evoke a strong spiritual response.”  She’s recreating iconic images of Hindu Gods and Goddesses, and the first example of the work is stunning (top image).  We honestly thought it was an illustration at first, clearly showing the skill involved, and the Manjari’s immaculate attention to detail.  The care she’s taken to make sure these images resemble accurate photographic interpretations is great, especially considering that these images had never been photos, but illustrations or paintings. On behalf of the IPMM Community, we just donated $11 to her Kickstarter Project, which is about to reach its funding goal!  We can’t wait to see the catalog of Indian Deity images upon completion. We promise to report back…

As for the rest of Manjari Sharma’s photography, it’s exceptional. You can enjoy that at ManjariSharma.com
