Photos and Words by Angie Mejia
As Chicago enjoys autumn’s lovely color and brisk weather, the Chicago Sinfonietta ushers in their 25th year as “The Nation’s Most Diverse Orchestra”. The stated mission of the orchestra is to “serve as a national model for inclusiveness and innovation in classical music,” and last Monday’s performance demonstrated that mission to perfection. IPMM was able to attend as guests of the Sinfonietta, and we extend our sincerest thanks to Jeanelle Chang for helping make it happen.
The night employed the combination of melody, dance, and composition, from Hungarian Dance No. 5 by Johannes Brahms, and an eclectic array of influences by PROJECT Trio. Avner Dorman contributed, and finally the young duo Eric Goldberg and Shuya Gong chimed in on marimba and percussion. Each collaborated with Chicago Sinfonietta’s orchestra eloquently.
