It’s been a little while since we did a vinyl recommendation, which means, we’ve been slackin’ on purchasing new records…but we’ll get our shit together…we promise. Until then, you should definitely know about DJ Limbs’ latest project. Limbs is a homie, and we like letting folks know what he’s up to. It’s always been easy, since we dig everything he does. The vinyl release party was last Friday night at Mars Gallery, and DJ Limbs and Butter performed the tracks from the single. What they’ve created feels like the epitome of trip hop. Ruth Varella’s vocals (lead singer, Butter) stretch out over the downbeat tracks and sound like Portishead is having sex with Gilberto Gil.
This is a Limited Edition 7″ Vinyl Release of 250 and can be procured at DJ Limbs’ Bandcamp outpost, HERE. The next best thing is, it’s only $5!
Here’s what Limbs has to say about the release:
“A collaboration that started after meeting at a Chicago loft party, the two bring their unique experiences and influences to the table. Through collaborations over the internet, and meetups in Curitiba, Brazil and Chicago, Illinois they have recorded songs that span across age, location and genre. The results are “Mad Jazz Noodle” (as featured on the Quennect4 Compilation Album), a dance record that shifts between downtempo and drum n bass, and “The Wimp” a poignant tale sung over an electronic fury. These samples present a small section of the musical pallete on their upcoming album ‘The Many Flavors of Bittersweet’.”
