Loyal Divide
Chris Sadek
LD is:
I Paint My Mind: I’ve known you since our recess days, what about your upbringing (as a group) lead you to bandship?
Chris Sadek: Well, I’ve been playing the cello since I was 4, and then began playing the trumpet in 6th grade. All of us in the band are lifelong musicians, and our main songwriter, Adam, studied classical piano. Other than that, we all grew up with dogs and our latest EP is titled Labrador, common thread??
IPMM: How long has Loyal Divide been playing together? How did this band of gypsies unite?
CS: Noto, Adam, and Sid went to high school and played together and needed a singer and drummer when they got to college. We’ve been seriously playing together for 4 years or so.
IPMM: I know you guys gained some well-deserved acclaim playing gigs in Columbus, Ohio before the band moved to Chicago, what’s been easy and what’s been difficult as far as breaking into the local scene?
CS: Finding good management, breaking into the right clubs, and finding venues that cater to people who would enjoy what we do. Actually, lately we’ve realized how much blogs can help to spread the word. Thanks again IPMM!

IPMM: Name the top 3 concerts you’ve been to.
CS: Arcade Fire at this tiny place called Southgate House, across the river from Cincy in Kentucky, there were like 20 people there, it was right before they got huge. Then it would have to be Flaming Lips and David Byrne, both in Chicago.
IPMM: Is ketchup acceptable on a hot dog?
CS: Fuck yea! I don’t discriminate between condiments!
IPMM: How would you describe Loyal Divide’s sound?
CS: Beat driven, grungy, dance pop, that reflects our cold Chicago. You’ll like it.
IPMM: What’s on deck for LD? Upcoming shows? Recording sessions?
CS: We’re playing the Double Door on May 2nd, you can check our show schedule at: http://theloyaldivide.com/shows.htm. We are also planning on recording a full length record starting soon, hopefully for a fall release. It’s gonna be our 10 song banger. We’ll be recording it at this sick studio called The Basement………it’s pretty nice, it’s in our basement.
IPMM: How can people purchase your music?
CS: You can buy our latest EP on Itunes, Amazon, CDBaby (http://cdbaby.com/cd/ldivide) where you can hear snippets of tracks, or at one of our shows…..which is way better cuz all the $$$ goes to us!
IPMM: Let’s play “Pro’s and Con’s of Life,” you respond either PRO or CON.
