180 Degrees South

Yesterday I watched the film, 180 Degrees South, directed by Chris Malloy. It’s about a dude named Jeff Johnson, who follows the route two explorers took on a 1968 journey, from Ventura, CA to the tip of Patagonia. He seeks the Corcovado peak in Patagonia, which he plans to climb, if he can get there before the ice melts. The film is full of incredible shots of nature, the pacific ocean, the Patagonian region, as well as some insane views of Easter Island (a place I now must visit).

Jeff gets in a sailboat and heads south, exploring in his own way, but still paying homage to Yvon Chouinard and Doug Tompkins, who are now committed to preserving Patagonia by helping advocate for conservation via protected parks in parts of Chile.

This film is a lot of fun, and includes some incredible photography.  It gets the IPMM seal of approval…

Stream it for free in HD, on Netflix, via Roku
