Henri Cartier-Bresson on Wikipedia

Some refer to Bresson as the best photographer of all time.  I think it’s hard to make claims like that, but this film does a great job of revealing the genius of his photographs, by giving a glimpse into his world, and through his own words.  The Impassioned Eye uses interviews with Bresson, as well as some of his friends and contemporaries, to illuminate the work.  It’s a very informative and entertaining film, calmly paced, and easily digestible.

Bresson not only took amazing photographs, but seemed to become inextricably linked to the places and the people that he came across.  I think it’s that intensity of mind and a willingness to experience his surroundings fully, that enabled such great photographs. Time to find a nice big book of his stuff…
