How I Became an Art Collector

April 9th, 2018 Posted by Art, Featured No Comment yet

Growing up, most of us participate in some type of art, whether visual art, theatre, or dance. Despite not being an art-school kid, I became an art collector with the help of music.

Nick and Nadine of Sonnenzimmer are talked about glowingly within working artist circles, and IPaintMyMind has been honored to connect with them more in the past 18 months by adding their work to our growing collection, which we curate into businesses and community spaces all over Chicago as part of Shared Walls.
Our model is all about supporting the artists we believe in through purchasing bundles of their work for our collection, then rotating them as part of a service that sustainably funds art access in all communities.

When we connected with ZS Associates last year as part of a Shared Walls rotating art exhibition in their new downtown Evanston offices at the Rotary Building, we knew Sonnenzimmer would be a great fit. The space is modern, clean, and has lots of great light, lending itself to the abstract components & design elements that are so notable in Nick and Nadine’s work.

We ended up curating 3 oversized art prints for the ZS Lounge and 8 more 18×24 in. art prints for the main wall in the adjacent workspace.

Since then, we’ve acquired another batch of prints from Sonnenzimmer, bringing us to over 40 art prints and gigposters of theirs in our collection. Those went up at Adidas’ Originals new Bucktown store, and will be rotated into community spaces like schools, libraries, and youth centers in 2018!

Sonnenzimmer are constantly pushing the realms of their own knowledge to make more involved, intricate, and genre bending work. They’re inherently looking for new ways to make stuff, and we admire that.

They’re super intentional about who they work with, and have been really encouraging as far as IPaintMyMind’s work and development. We’re excited to feature them, because working with them has been a lot of fun, and a great example of how IPMM supports artists through purchases, then mobilizes that art to make it accessible to everyone.

Below we’ve included some beautiful work by Sonnenzimmer that we recently acquired for our Shared Walls Program.
Go ahead and check out their art prints or gigposters to grab a couple pieces of your own or view the works we’ve posted below!

Andreina Davila Mixes Organic Compositions With Philosophical Aspirations

Andreina Davila exercises mixed media to embrace organic lines and intricate textures in her three current projects: #IAM], # SOMOS and BotanINK. The San Francisco-based artist represents connections among human philosophy and natural beauty with washy, tenuous surfaces. Her stunning work is decorated with scattered pointillism and fluid, free-formed lines.
