Introduction
Often times I feel life passing me by. Fleeting thoughts, fluttering sounds, faint voices. Bizarre winds, bubbling pots, breakthrough ideas. This concept has turned life into puzzle for me – intent converging with chaos; meticulus order followed by undecipherable overflow. For most of us, our personal lens or methodoligical framework acts as the catalyst for the ways we synthesize and add up information from the modes we’re not as nimble with.
For me, all things move towards words – where they live. Not a final resting place, so much as an exhaust valve. Images, sounds, tactile sensations, any sensory input finds its life in my words……it’s the best way I know how.
The most powerful and life-affirming moments in my life have been shrouded in convergence, and focused by synergy. I understand that this is not always true: for some of us, contrast provides that energy………in either case, creativity is helpful, it gives us purpose, and pushes us forward.
I hope this blog pushes US forward. I am going to use the space as my convergence point, perhaps a testament to the things that inspire this sense of creativity in me………..music, art, philosophy, readings, poetry, photography, heads-ups, insights, quotes and offerings.
The title of my blog is “I Paint My Mind Just Cuz I’m Alive“, in honor of John Frusciante – singer, songwriter, and lead guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The words, “I paint my mind…” are lyrics taken from John’s first solo album, entitled “Niandra La Des and Usually Just A T-Shirt,” which he recorded during his hiatus from RHCP in the early 90′s. The lines go:
i paint my mind just cuz i’m alive,
and if you see me roaming the hillside,
won’t you come along??
You paint your eyes,
mine are in the sky,
no worldly word i can say, could be golden
1st Heads-Up!!! (this is where i drop someone else’s cool-creation on you!)
John Frusciante’s latest solo record was released on January 27th, 2009 and is also available for digital donwload on itunes. The album is titled, The Empyrean, and is a concept album……..this album has been making my life significantly better over the past week or so. For those unfamiliar with JF’s solo stuff, it is very different than the Chili Peppers – some soft electronic beats, of course Jimi-esque guitars, synths, a choir on one track, the 9 minute funk aesthetic, as well as his usual sound manipulation. Mr. Froosh offers insight into the album on his blog, which you can find here:
So, friends…………won’t you come along???
Whether it’s a thesis of my own, a poignant verse of another, a piece by a friend or a spark from afar, I plan on sharing it, and I’d love your feedback. Although this is my space, it’s yours too, in fact, it means nothing without you. If you’re wondering what’s on my plate, or keen on something in particular, let me know ……… evanvicente@gmail.com
Photo Info: I took this photo at Iguazu Falls in Argentina, then inverted it for maximum tickle. I have planned on using the image as the cover for my first book, and I’m sticking to it, but it can double as the opening to this blog too. Much love, Ev
