Patrick Engman, 35mm Film Photography and A Curious Lens
Pat is a perfect weirdo. Not only does he take exceptional photos, but his personality exclaims the fact that he is living. Energetic, quirky, fun, and accepting, his view is reflected in his photography. Not only does he favor analog, he also exudes this unassuming sense of wonder. He’s a great listener, which makes sense when you check out his incognito photos that capture small, even mundane moments… all of them beautiful in their own, fleeting way.
While he does indeed work on some digital projects, Pat loves 35mm film. He likes the process of being in the dark room, and managing the various tasks that take you from the click of the camera to holding the printed image in your hand.
Having grown up in Guam and Oklahoma, before spending most of his youth in South Florida, he currently resides in Rogers Park on Chicago’s north side. He’s an example of someone drawn to a craft, who shows just how much can be conveyed when we just stop, listen, and look around. He’s an observer, inquisitively finding moments and sharing them with us.
He also happens to pull a perfect espresso shot… I know this first-hand.
