By Day 3 of any festival, your feet are tired, your wallet is empty, and you’re running on pure fumes. Luckily for everyone in attendance, there was plenty of music to see us through the last day of Pitchfork Music Festival 2013in Chicago, IL. Chairlift sounded great, and looked oddly serene. Is that doctor’s scrubs she was wearing? Yea, it was. Streamers tied to her wrists? We think so! Lil B was his imitable self,
The highlight of the day musically for IPMM had to be Toro Y Moi, whose live set was incredibly impressive. TYM aka Chazwick Bradley Bundick stood at his synthesizer and laid down some funk. Between the guitars, driving bass, and electronic toys, Toro Y Moi kept people dancing.
MIA had some technical difficulties but powered through, pleasing her rabid fans, with what looked like an Indian carnival on display behind her. She came with 4-5 backup dancers and enough bass to murder the eardrums of anyone within 40 yards of the stage. Before she was done, the energy in the festival grounds changed to that of anticipating R. Kelly’s performance. It made for a lot of jokes in the run up to the festival, even though we ourselves have tipped our hat to Pitchfork for their ability to draw a diverse lineup. In this case, it was more novelty than anything, shooting fish in a barrel. Although it might not have worked as well in any other town, R. Kelly is apparently still doing his thing, letting everyone know when he’s at the party, the hotel lobby, or wherever the hell else he takes himself. We’d prefer not speculate. Check back for a full review of the entire weekend in the coming days, as well as our coverage of Days One and Two of Pitchfork Music Festival.
