In Chicago, there are tons of artists who are involved in every portion of the making process of their works. The sketch, the screen, the paper, the paint; they do it all, and take pride in that being the case. Hiroshi is one of them, and his artwork is Chicago to the bone. So much so, we’re surprised it has taken us thi long to find him. Whether the Brown Line snaking around the River North buildings, the crow on Ravenswood, or Loop and Linden bound trains overgrown by a sheen of blue, it’s all well-known to those of us who live here, and Hiroshi Ariyama does an impeccable job of creating cleanly designed, and subtly evocative art prints. They both communicate what it feels like to live in Chicago, perhaps on a cloudy day where you have to squint a little harder to make the colors pop.

We hope to meet Hiroshi in person, his studio certainly looks like a fun one.

In their own words:

“I create screen prints of everyday scenes of Chicago and its neighborhood. I try to transform mundane urban scenes into evocative and melancholy art.”
