Records & Transcripts: The Art of Sonny Kay & Damon Locks at IPaintMyMind Gallery
Our most anticipated show to date, IPaintMyMind is proud to announce the opening reception for Records & Transcripts: The Art of Sonny Kay & Damon Locks. The exhibition will feature Sonny & Damon’s convergence at the intersection of art & music. Both having created through sight & sound for over 25 years, Records & Transcripts will be a retrospective that includes posters, flyers, handbills, records, prints, and other pieces relating to the creation of music, and the parallels provided by the images, textures, & colors they’re paired with.
We’re also releasing a Limited Edition poster, available only at the opening reception. Only 25 of these were made and they’ll come numbered, and signed by both Sonny & Damon.
To that end, we’ve also teamed up with DJ Major Taylor to provide the audioscape for the evening. He’s a buddy of both the guys and IPMM and the fit really couldn’t be better.
At IPaintMyMind, we’ve always kept our lens wide enough to encompass both art & music. They are inherently connected forms of expression, and the transformative experiences we all have interacting with either, is the basis of why IPMM exists. These gentlemen embody not only our ethos, but their incredible work serves as an indicator of our emphasis as curators, and the potency that opens up when we expose ourselves to variety.
R&T @ IPaintMyMind opens on Thursday, July 17th – the night before Pitchfork Festival starts at Chicago’s Union Park.
