Volunteer Opportunity: Hang an Art Gallery In a Public School With IPaintMyMind
Have you been looking for an exciting opportunity to get involved with the city’s vibrant art community? Or perhaps some training in art hanging and handling? This is the perfect time to lend your energy to one of Chicago’s art nonprofits. IPaintMyMind’s unique Shared Walls™ program gives one free year of a rotating art gallery to CPS schools all across the city. Be a part of this effort and give back to your city. Here’s what to expect if you volunteer with us!
First things First
You’re going to need to sign up here. So go ahead do that! Next, I’d recommend you check out our About page and get acquainted with the IPaintMyMind model. To sum it up, we really believe that art has a catalytic power to inspire, engage, and change lives. IPaintMyMind works with a cyclic group of businesses, artists, and schools to brighten up office walls, provide corporate giving opportunities, give art and art education to underfunded students, and pay artists fairly for their work.
If you’re pretty excited now that you’ve gotten familiar with what we do, post about it on your social media and let your friends know! Maybe they want to volunteer as well!
Throwing Down for The Kids
The day of, all you have to do is show up with a smile and ready to help. You’ll meet a team of bright, giving, and talented young volunteers and IPaintMyMind coordinators, and hopefully come away with some new friends. Are you an Art Handler or a Math Wizard? You can choose either job, either polishing the pieces and deciding in what order they’ll be hung, or measuring and marking where to hammer in the nails.
Everyone gets to hang the pieces themselves, and then admire their hard work!
This is a really fantastic way to get active and give students valuable educational and artistic opportunities. At the end of the day, you’ll have gifted a brand-new art gallery to a public school. You’ll also have kickstarted some of these young students’ artistic education. We’ll even give you a letter of reference and a contact on your resume, so you can let everyone know how awesome you are!
Volunteer In August/September 2020!
If you want to volunteer your time to help us hang art before the new school year, sign up for our volunteer list by August 17th.
You’ll be scheduled in late August or early September. We can’t wait to work together!

All smiles, who knew hanging art could be this fun?
